The Skirmish at Lamar was an encounter between the Alpha Clan and Zeta Clan in regards to their relations to the Xi Clan.
Background[]
When the Alpha Clan became desperate for resources, they exploited Xi's weak military. Threatening them with extermination, the Alpha Clan demanded that Xi share half of their abundance of resources with them. Xi initially refused. To prove a point, the Alphas managed to publicly execute a Xi warlord. Xi leadership immediately agreed to Alpha's terms out of fear.
After several years of Alpha Clan abuse, the Xi Clan began looking for help. Most of the other Dragoon clans either were indifferent or didn't want to cross the Alphas. Zeta Clan was the only clan to show concern. Xi and Zeta leaders met and agreed to help each other: Zeta would provide Xi with protection, while Xi would help improve Zeta's infrastructure and supplement them with resources as needed.
The Skirmish[]
Knowing that the Alphas collected their share of resources from the Xi city of Lamar, the Zeta Clan garrisoned two battalions in the city.
As expected, an Alpha Clan company arrived soon after to collect. Instead of the offering of Xi resources, the Zetas surrounded the Alpha company. The Zetas gave the Alpha company an opportunity to leave without any bloodshed, but the Alpha company was stubborn and proud.
The Zetas did not want any bloodshed, but they responded when the outnumbered Alpha Company began to fight. The Zetas were able to run the Alpha company out of the city without taking any casualties and with the Alphas taking minimal casualties.
Aftermath[]
Alpha and Zeta leadership met to discuss the skirmish. The Alphas were furious and threatened the Zetas with war. The Zetas did not back down. With the lack of resources to fight a full scale war, the Alpha Clan reluctantly backed down.
Despite the small scale of the event, it was an early cause of tension between the Alpha and Zeta clans. Some historians even suggest it was the event that would lead to further conflicts between the two clans.
